Orange and Bebo unveil exclusive mobile marketing deal

LONDON - Orange and Bebo have signed an exclusive deal to bring mobile social networking to Orange customers.

Orange and Bebo unveil exclusive mobile marketing deal

Bebo Mobile, which launched today, allows users to meet and chat using their WAP-enabled Orange handsets without extra software.

Bebo Mobile users can create personal profiles, upload photos, create and update blogs and view other members’ profiles, exactly as with Bebo online.

Orange will have an exclusive on the UK service for an undisclosed period of time before it is tailored and rolled out to other global Orange operations.

Sanjiv Ahuja, Orange CEO, said: "Orange is turning social networking into an 'anytime, anywhere' experience. With Bebo mobile, the phone is moving from a one-to-one communication device to a complete social networking tool, enabling people to engage in conversations, discover new interests and express themselves in a completely new way."

Joanna Shields, president international, Bebo, added: "The mobile phone is the 'missing link' for social networking. Bebo users spend more time on Bebo than on any other website, but until today, logging off from the internet also meant logging out of your network.

"Our partnership with Orange changes this, helping users to stay in touch regardless of where they are."

Not sure that this deal is really beneficial to either party in the long term. To me the future has got to be off operator portal. And wait til parents find out what kids get up to when they have 24/7 access to community with a cameraphone - very difficult to oversee. Still, will be interesting to see what happens...
