Webby Awards will recognise best sites for mobiles

NEW YORK - Famous internet awards scheme the Webbys is launching a new set of gongs to recognise excellence in websites designed for mobile devices.

The Webby Mobile Awards will be presented during the 11th annual Webby Awards in June next year. Nominees will be announced in April and the deadline for entries is on December 15.

There are three categories in the awards, which are designed to reflect how mobile phones and other devices are part of everyday life.

The categories, which are designed to recognise mobile sites that sell products and services, are listings and updates; news and entertainment; and the mobile marketplace.

The awards are being sponsored by dotMobi, the internet address for mobile phones.

David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards, said: "Some of the most exciting and innovative content being created today is for mobile devices.

"We're proud to have such strong support from an industry group such as dotMobi in honouring the innovators who are setting the benchmarks for this emerging field."

The awards can be entered online.
