Metasearch firm Infospace hires Yahoo!'s Trigg for European growth

LONDON - US metasearch giant Infospace, which operates sites including Dogpile and Webcrawler, has signalled plans to expand its European presence with the appointment of Dominic Trigg as vice-president.

Trigg was formerly director of European advertising at Yahoo! UK & Ireland, and has also worked with MSN as advertising sales director, and held roles at Hotmail, Expedia and BT Internet. At Infospace, he will report to Brian McManus, vice-president of European sales and marketing.

He is joined at Infospace by John Thornhill, who takes the role of business development director. Thornhill was previously chief executive of Metronomy, which pioneered the concept of giving away PCs in exchange for people watching ads online.

Infospace deals with metasearch, and runs sites in Europe including dogpile.co.uk, webfetch.com and webcrawler.de, which collate search results from major search engines in one place.

The appointments signal Infospace's intention to extend its presence across Europe, where it already has 174 staff.

The pair will look at building relationships with existing partners Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves and Google, as well as developing its white label search service. Infospace already provides search for the Daily Mirror's webiste.

"The sheer volume of information available on the web has doubled within the last four years alone, and users are beginning to recognise the benefits of having the best results from all the leading search engines in one place.

"This enhanced user experience adds real value for consumers who use our European search sites, and our corporate partners, who are seeing outstanding monetisation from Infospace searches conducted on their own websites," Trigg said.

Infospace also operates in the mobile entertainment area, delivering information and entertainment services to consumers.
